In the aftermath of the Civil War, former slaves founded and constructed towns throughout the state of Texas. These were places completely their own, important symbols of freedom and self-sufficiency after generations of enslavement. Decades later, these towns began to vanish as cities expanded and populations shifted. This documentary highlights the colony Dabney Hill, as its descendants come to terms with the destruction of their historical church, one of the last remaining public buildings of the Freedom Colonies, and discuss why it is so important to maintain and catalogue these sites before they are lost forever.
